Being involved in a student council comes with a lot of responsibilities.
Part of those responsibilities are promoting the group and its goals and recruiting new members. This is where a good poster comes in!
If you’re having trouble coming up with a creative idea, keep reading.
Step 1. The materials
Materials you need may vary depending on your skills and equipment.
A bunch of colored markers and colored paper can do the trick, especially if you are confident with drawing and lettering, but if you want to go for a sleek look and have access to advanced resources, you can design the poster on the computer and then print it or have it printed.
Printing will save you lots of time and give you consistent results because you only have to design the poster once. Then you can make several copies to attach and distribute.
Step 2. A creative concept
Anything from illustrations to photo collages can work in your favor if you start with the right idea. Don’t restrain your creativity. Start with a strong concept.
Take the time to plan before starting the design, making notes and sketches and reviewing them before developing the ideas further.
Step 3. A strong visual side
The poster should be bright and colorful. There should be good contrast between the background and the foreground.
Graphics can be very simple. You don’t have to make everything so complicated. However, you do need to make the graphics clear so your message can get across and reach as many people as possible.
Step 4. A great slogan
To make a winning poster — not to mention a successful campaign — you need a memorable slogan. The old “Vote for X” is just too boring and everybody could easily write something like that.
If you want to stand out, you need to be original. Creating a witty motto will reflect your strengths and show people they can trust you. Make it prominent in the poster.
Remember to always play it fair. Dissing others is no way to look smarter. Being constructive and positive is also the surest path to success in the long run.
Step 5. The final poster
The poster should be easy to attach around the school and distribute to students, so make it practical. Huge posters will be problematic, but small ones also can be used as flyers!
You also can take advantage of social media and make a digital version of your poster.
An accomplished poster is the result of your ideas. As far as materials and skills are concerned, making the poster will be a cinch!
