Happy fall, y’all! It’s time to share some tips for creating a postcard for this wonderful season.
It doesn’t matter if you’re sending these postcards for personal reasons or for promoting a business. These greetings will be a welcome surprise for all!
Step 1. Measurements.
First of all, you need to choose the format of the postcard.
Some classic postcard sizes are 4 inches by 6 inches, 5 inches by 7 inches and 6 inches by 9 inches. If you want to print the postcard at home, you can just pick one of these standard sizes and buy pre-cut stock (available from most office suppliers).
If you are more confident with cutting the paper in custom sizes, you can try different formats.
Step 2. Images.
Find graphics that will put people in the right mood. Vibrant warm images of leaves and trees, bright pumpkins and cozy interiors are some of the most popular choices, but you can give the postcard a personal flair by choosing other original themes.
Step 3. Text.
If you picked a suitable image, you can create a color scheme by sampling colors from it. You can do it yourself with your image editor’s eyedropper tool.
Use the colors throughout the postcard’s front side for writing your text, selecting fitting fonts and applying effects like drop shadow and transparency to make it more attractive.
Keep your front greeting brief (you can use the back for longer messages).
Step 4. The back.
To create the back of the postcard, all you have to do is draw one off-center vertical line that is one pixel wide. Then create four additional horizontal lines in the right portion of the card.
These are just guides so you know where to write the recipient’s name, address and message. You don’t have to be accurate with the measurements.
After printing the front, flip the postcard stock over to print the back.
Step 5. Online printers.
There are several services, including Print Place, that you can use to print your postcard online. By choosing an online printer, you won’t have to spend time and resources to print the postcards by yourself.
Most of these services will ask you to upload your images, choose a quantity of postcards to be printed and pay with a credit card or Paypal. Be sure to read their file requirements before submitting your final artwork.
Show you care!
Postcards are a charming way to send seasonal greetings on a private and professional level. Use the best graphics for the occasion and keep the postcard simple for the greatest impact.
