If you are planning a party for New Year’s Eve, chances are you will need a flyer to invite people to come.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a shiny flyer for your big party.
Step 1. The document’s background
Start by creating a document sized 8.5 inches in width and 11 inches in height with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch.
Download the drapery texture and open it. Import it into your flyer’s document either by copying and pasting or by dragging and dropping it.
With the transform tool, resize it to better fit the document’s work area. This will be the background.
Step 2. Gradient
Create a blank layer over the drapery one. Fill it with a linear gradient with a black and dark golden color (#5B3E1E). Change the layer’s blend mode to Hard Light.
Step 3. The main graphics
Download the Champagne bottle stock and open the golden bottle (#7). Bring it into your document as you did with the background. Use the transform tools to adjust its size and placement.
Step 4. Some decoration
With the pen tool, draw the shape of a ribbon. Right click on it and choose “Fill path” to give it a solid dark golden color.
In the layer styles panel, apply to the ribbon a gradient to loosely match the colors of the bottle and also a slight beveled edge for depth. Duplicate the bottle graphics a couple of times and place the copies to the sides of the original. Resize and rotate them slightly.
With the eraser tool, delete the lower part of the bottles that is sticking out from the ribbon.
Step 5. The flyer’s text
Choose a couple of fonts for the flyer’s text. Use one to write a big headline to position on the ribbon. The other font can be used for the rest of the text.
Choose colors and styles that will complement the rest of the flyer. Add all the necessary information, such as the date and time of the event, venue, special guests, possible entry fees and so on.
Step 6. Special effects
To complete the flyer and make it stand out more, you can apply some special light effect to it.
Add an outer glow to the bottles and ribbon from the layer style panel. With the ellipse tool, draw an ellipse. Fill it with a radial light yellow to black gradient, and then lower its opacity and change its blend mode to screen.
Repeat the same method to add more light around the flyer and highlight specific areas.
